Operations Technician

This position is also known as Technical Media Operator.

Duties

• Reports to the newscast technician manager.
• Oversees the operation, maintenance and storage of various equipment (audio, cameras, digital, graphics, lighting, etc.) used for news production.
• Assists in the installation, operation and maintenance of sound recording equipment and often serves as a studio floor director, translating what a director wants into action.
• Ensures the set is tidy and organized and also oversees the props.
• Maintains the lighting grid and control board and is knowledgeable about broadcast news equipment and software.

Qualifications

• Able to interact well with news management, on-air talent, multimedia journalists, videographers, the news production team and engineering staff.

Experience Level

• High school diploma is required and experience in television, film or post- production is preferred.
